Congratulations!  My 2012 was in a similar situation with the Academies and ultimately declined...much to my wife's and my dismay.

Others have walked the path at Navy, Army, and Air Force before and post on this board.  They may know the latest and greatest.

The MLB draft is not out of the question, though collegiate summer leagues may be.  There are different requirements that the armed services will have regarding the MLB draft and long term professional play.  Your son should ask the coach about summer ball, MLB draft, the Navy application process for a recruited athlete, etc.

Again, congratulations!  A great achievement!

What is US Naval Academy baseball ranking? How it compares to other Div 1 programs as for example Ivy?

She91434,

Congrats on your son's offer.  That is outstanding.   I posted this (below in italtics) in a similar thread yesterday about Service Academy pitching.

Navy (Patriot League) is a D1 conference, and is very similar in baseball level to the Ivy League.  Of the 29 D1 conferences, the Ivy is #22 and Patriot is #24 according to http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2014/conferencerpi.   I've seen quite a few Patriot/Ivy matchups over the years and there is not much difference from a baseball perspective.  Good luck.

FWIW....I think you can look at it a couple different ways.  Most guys that make this level of commitment to a Service Academy are thinking about country first and baseball second.  If they wanted to play baseball primarily in college they probably would have taken another D1 offer.  It takes a special person to go to these schools.

http://www.ncaa.com/stats/base.../current/team/211/p1.  There are 296 D1 programs.  Here is how they stacked up by ERA nationally.

Army is #23

Navy is #104

Air Force is #244

However, I don't think that tells the whole story.  I think you need to look at each program in the context of it's conference to get a real idea of the pitching level and how they "stack up" versus like programs.  JMO.

My son's team played Navy this Spring.  They had a couple "horses" that could bring it on the mound.  Their style of play was small ball, pitching, defense and opportunistic hitting.  They were extremely good at executing plays and situations as you would expect.
