I echo what RJM said. And, CaCo, I know you have concerns about the timeline moving up in recent years. That applies primarily to those who clearly have or clearly project to have D1 talent.
I have several kids in our system currently who are going through the process, playing travel, hitting the showcases, etc. and this still holds true. I have a rising sophomore ss who projects as a possible D1 player but not close to physical maturity yet and thus not getting offers yet. Another soph LHP (who's brother is a frosh D1) is also on the upward curve of physical maturity and velo. He will likely end up mid D1 to D2 but not getting interest yet. I have a rising Jr C who could potentially be a D1 player, more likely a good D2, who is only getting light interest at this point. I have a handful of rising juniors who will be decent to good D3, NAIA players and the only one who has gotten interest is the one that is pushing specifically at those levels. There is a girl in our HS softball program who recently committed D1 after her freshman year but she is already a clear D1 prospect in everyone's eyes. There was no question in anyone's mind.
Perhaps your son fits that mold. I don't recall enough detail. But, if you are questioning whether he does or not, he doesn't. Yet, anyway. As always, don't forget to fully enjoy the HS experience with your kid(s). I get what you are doing and it's smart but, remember, too much forward looking can take away from enjoying the best, most memorable days of their lives (and yours).
Sincerely, Broken Record
