I'm resurrecting this thread again to get updates on everyone.

Dadofa17, did things work out?  Anything you would do differently?

Midlo Dad, how did it work out for those 7 players?  Given the recent high profile 14u event PG put on do you still stand by your previous statement "I don't know of any recruiting going on at the 14u level, so anyone going to a 14u tourney is there for the experience of playing in the big venue. "

Anyone else want to give an update or post a current experience?

I echo what RJM said.  And, CaCo, I know you have concerns about the timeline moving up in recent years.  That applies primarily to those who clearly have or clearly project to have D1 talent.

I have several kids in our system currently who are going through the process, playing travel, hitting the showcases, etc. and this still holds true.  I have a rising sophomore ss who projects as a possible D1 player but not close to physical maturity yet and thus not getting offers yet.  Another soph LHP (who's brother is a frosh D1) is also on the upward curve of physical maturity and velo.  He will likely end up mid D1 to D2 but not getting interest yet.  I have a rising Jr C who could potentially be a D1 player, more likely a good D2, who is only getting light interest at this point.  I have a handful of rising juniors who will be decent to good D3, NAIA players and the only one who has gotten interest is the one that is pushing specifically at those levels.  There is a girl in our HS softball program who recently committed D1 after her freshman year but she is already a clear D1 prospect in everyone's eyes.  There was no question in anyone's mind.

Perhaps your son fits that mold.  I don't recall enough detail.  But, if you are questioning whether he does or not, he doesn't.  Yet, anyway.  As always, don't forget to fully enjoy the HS experience with your kid(s).  I get what you are doing and it's smart but, remember, too much forward looking can take away from enjoying the best, most memorable days of their lives (and yours).

Sincerely, Broken Record

You keep playing that broken record cabbagedad.  Seems just yesterday my oldest was getting ready for his first HS season.  Now off playing in college.  Unbelievable how fast those four years went.

You can't simply wait for it to come to you but certainly need to try to stop and enjoy it along the way

CaCO3girl,

My son is now a senior in high school.  He dealt with some injuries over the past year, but never gave up the dream.   He had strong interest from some mid level D1s, but he decided to commit to Georgia Gwinett.  A local NAIA school.  Why?   It fits him academically.   This is a school where he sees himself being able to succeed in the classroom.   It is also a school that he believed he would enjoy playing at.   He liked the coaching staff and their coaching style.  Now we wait and see.   I am hoping it is a great fit and he has. Four great years.

Looking back, I am glad he took the time early in high school to see various schools so he knew what his options were and what mattered to him.  We looked at schools that were top D1 programs and looked at smaller jucos.   Schools with 1800 students to 60,000.   He always tried to be open minded and see what the schools had to offer.   When he finally committed, I believe he knew it was the right place for him.

And the the best part: he will be less then an hour away, so mom and dad can go to lots of games!

Congrats and best wishes to your son!

That's in our back yard. 57 wins last year is impressive!
