For reasons which are personal, I am sitting hear listening to a press conference following Trinity University losing in the pod championship game of DIII.  My gosh, for anyone who wants to play college baseball, these 12 minutes say so much.

And then toward the end, the 5th year senior who was highly recruited out of HS and battled injuries voices what is so important in college baseball, IMO, you can't force a leader.  Listen to these guys talk about the times, the laughs, the sacrifices and finally learning to play...for each other and what that means, whether they win the CWS or leave Appleton having played their hearts out with the support of parents and players they never met, including #41 and #12.

Not part of the media, but so much part of the week in Appleton is the presence of the family of #41, including his grandson he never met, proudly wearing Trinity Tigers on the front and Grandpa Bob on the back. Grandpa Bob died on May 17, 2002. Bob was a mid 40's volunteer assistant at Trinity.  His team loved him. He was a massive man and probably as tough as anyone from Montana, where he was born.

Bob changed lives, including just about every member of the team who showed up for the 2002 Regional knowing Bob passed away hours before and they "had" to play.

I don't know Beau, Wolfie or any member of this Trinity team.

They won't ever know and it may not really matter in a real world way how proud I am to watch them this week and the last few weeks and how proud I am our son chose to play for Coach Scannell and be a Tiger and help start a journey which took so long to get to today.

So spontaneous in a press conference are all the emotions of a college baseball season, including the pivotal importance of leadership for a team...and you can't force a leader! Nothing better as a coach...they play for each other!
