Coaching Freshman Baseball
Hi, I will be coaching freshman HS baseball this year. I have previously coached 3 years of HS baseball and one year of college. It has been 6 years since I last coached HS, and was looking for any good books to read. I am looking for a coaching style, not necessarily drills, but a combonation of the two would be great. I am always looking to improve!! Thanks for the ideas ahead of time. PW

Need a drill
Didn't know where to post this but I'm hoping I'll get some good responses. I've been told that sometimes I tend to keep my front arm straight while swinging. Something called a cast bar or arm bar or something like that. It makes my bat drag behind and forces a later hit in the strike zone. I know using something like a rod with washers on it will help but what other drills can I do to keep that form happening. It's not a constant problem but when I'm at the cages late on in my time there I

Things Coaches Notice
? THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN! 4. Which players rotate to the back of the line all of the time. In other words, which players are so unsure of what is going on that they never step up to be the first to do a drill? 5. Which players can discuss a concept of what is being taught when the coach asks the questions? 6. Which players gravitate to standing around in groups instead of working on drills? Now, this is the coach’s fault as well. A phrase to remember, “Groups larger than 3 beware of me.” 7. Which

Correcting hitting mechanics
My coaches have noticed two big flaws in my swing so far this offseason. One is that I step toward third base all the time on inside pitches, causing me to open up and expose myself. My other problem is that my swing inconsistently uses my lower body, basically I almost always try and get by on pure upper body strength. Besides more reps, are there any drills I can do to correct this?

Question about Popping UP
I received a question about frequent pop ups to my site. How would you answer...here is mine Popping up is staying on the back side too much. Make sure he strides to a point that he tenses his lead inner thigh and keeps his hands back. The weight should not stay on the back foot and spin against live pitching or in drills. The HBH work should be about balance and learning to turn into the ball hard. We learn this by taking away most of the shift until they can learn to rotate their hips

The NOC player appeared to have his throwing arm allready starting into the **** phase before his stride foot was down. Once on the hill he seemed to get away from them and revert back to doing what I described earlier. Does anyone

Is this pitchinig information have any truth to it
some guy told me this: velocity is not about arm strength but about arm speed. And the only way to speed up the arm is to get the body moving faster so the forces are efficiently passed from one part to the next. No amount of arm strength drills will speed up the arm. Only explosive body movements will do that.
