Tomorrow is the Day!
athlete he has worked very hard the last several years with the goal of making it to the next level which at this point is making the freshmen team. The first week of tryouts was filled with lots of running and drills and my son has given it his all but not being an impressive physical specimen I don't think he has stood out. While I would never admit it to my son this process has made me extremely nervous knowing how much he will be crushed if he doesn't make the team. Well last night was the first

Using legs better
Not enough legs These are photos (18 thru 22)of my son warming up before an inning in a tournament this weekend. One of the things I noticed from video my wife took was that he tends to stay tall throughout his motion and doesn't get into a "squatted" position as the stride foot lands. Any ideas or drills to help him get into a stronger position and use his legs more. I've got to believe it would add a couple mph to his fastball. Thanks, CADad

Polk Drill Series
We are looking to use the Ron Polk drill series( From his Baseball Playbook) in our practices this coming season. The series seems to cover most skills and would accomplish this in an efficient amount of time. Practice would be Jog, Stretch, Throw, Individual position drills (15min), 3-4 Polk Series Drills (rotating them to cover all in a week)20-30min, and then on to our main focus for the day. Have any of you used these drills as a series? We're wondering what we might run into as problems

How to Teach a Catcher to Block
plate. Once the player is able to get up and down and return to this position we begin the drills. The first drill is a No-Flinch drill. In this drill the player assumes the blocking position but looks up and straight at the coach who is kneeling 3-4ft in front of them. The coach then throws balls directly at the facemask of the player. The player must take the hit without any flinching other then eye blink. For players who turn their heads or flinch backwards this drill should be a regular event

College Freshmen Nerves
Let me start by saying that the high school baseball web has been -- hands down -- the best resource we've found for information, support and help. And, that's not just about baseball, it's about life and raising boys. Here's my question. Our College freshman pitcher has been going through fall drills and "try-outs' for his D3 college team. Although he won't admit to freshman jitters, his comments say otherwise. He's really down after a bad bullpen and very high after a good one. Happy to say
