Re: Summer Ball 2011
I heard it many many times as my kids were coming along. "You think having kids is great. Just wait till you hold that first grand child. You don't know nothin yet son!" I always thought to myself "Now come on there is no way you can ever love anything as much as your own child. "WRONG!" When I see my grand daughter and she looks at me with those big blue eyes and says "I love you Papa." I melt. When I hold her I am in heaven. She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Simply an angel...

Re: COACH RESIGNS/What if this guy were your kid's coach?
I played for some tough coaches. And I have played for some coaches who would physically abuse you. I had a hs football coach that had a habit of kicking you in the rear end. He would also take the heel of his hand and bash you in front of the helmet. Verbal abuse never bothered me and it was a good thing because he could lay a cussing on you that would make a Hell's Angel blush. I respected this coach for his ability to coach to game. I respected him for his work ethic. I respected him for...

I never cared for Scully (lived in SoCal until '93). He talks to much. He states too many obscure stats. The best colorman I ever heard was Joe Torre when he did Angel games. There was no better sound in the spring than "It's time for This Week In Baseball" said my Mel Allen. It was like seeing the first robin.

Re: When will they learn
I find this comment to be part of the acceptance of the dumbing down of morality and ethics in today's society. No I wasn't a perfect angel as a kid and a young adult. But there also wasn't the internet and cell phones with picture taking capability. Whatever era someone lives in they have to be aware of the "gotchas". There's a rumor the girl's mother released the pictures for free publicity for her daughter. How many people knew who Brittany Binger was last week? It's amazing to me some of...

I have been wanting to share the story of how the Angels have reacted to this tragedy but have been unable to find the proper outlet. I feel that the baseball people on this site will understand and hope you all will bear with me a little. From the moment that this occurred the Angel organization has been supportive. On the morning of the accident they were here for us and helped us craft a statement to the...

As an example, here's a look at names of the Front Office, baseball operations, Field Ops, Scouting Department, minor leage affiliates....... And yes, it is considered by many as a living document and thus changes yearly. Much of the info is kept up to date on the Parent Clubs web site. OBTW: In...

Bakstop, If I was stereotyping anyone it is fans in general. Everybody loves a winner. Steroids weren't illegal in baseball, lots of people were using them. Gambling isn't illegal in basketball either. But both are illegal in real life. Both players are jerks who cheat on their wives but try to portray an image of an angel. The only difference I can see is that one won and one didn't. If Arod was coming off of a couple world series rings, he would be forgiven by a majority of his fans. If he...

Yes, nice post TR. I lost my mom 22 years ago, she never got to see my babies. It was kind of Karma-like though, we had tried for seven years for our first child, Our whole family believes that mom worked a deal for her to go up, and him to come down, an angel for an angel. Lost my dad just a few weeks ago. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MOMS!

Ok, here is my life's work when it comes to cooking.... I got the following hot/spicy recipe from an Italian guy named Vito Pasquale in 1986. Vito got the recipe from his mother who ironically was Croatian. I have worked on it ever since although the recipe is still probably 85% or 90% the same as when I got it from Vito. Since I am an Engineer, whenever I have met another Italian woman (or man) who happens to make sauce, I ask them about their recipe. If they tell me something I have never...

Re: Is parent coaching/teaching the norm for exceptional HS success?
Any Major League player's parents post here? I am not saying Minor league, college, HS players are not serious players. But players at Minor league level or lower can be created through practice, practice, and more practices. You don't need whole lot of talents to play at those levels. Parnets don't have the bragging right until their son become a Major Leaguer. It's way too early to take credit when your son only good at HS level. In my opinion, those Major League All-Stars are all Aliens...

Re: Is parent coaching/teaching the norm for exceptional HS success?
We have MLB parents here, they don't post often. As far as your statement, I will consider the source from one who coaches 11 year olds and critiques them. Yes, you can get really good through practice, practice, practice, good enough to get to milb. Then you have to practice, practice, practice to get to MLB, no matter what talent god gave you. In fact, lots of the god given talent guys DON'T make it, because they feel they don't have to practice, practice, practice.

I have watched Denis all year. He has not only played extremely well all year, but he's also carried himself well. There were some issues last year where he did some things he likely regretted. I haven't seen that this year. He's not an angel (sorry Bill), but he's represented the school well this year. Being an Angel fan in So Cal, we can see him on TV every game. By this time, my assumption is that the entire league has a scouting report on how to pitch to Trout, but he seems to be making adjustments quite well... As of his overall defensive and offensive play and numbers right now, he's currently the best baseball player in the league. He plays the game of baseball the way Ronnie Lott played the game of football. His swing is so short and quick, he makes hard contact (whether it be fair...

Interesting questions on the Angel outfield, JH. Vernon Well's contract makes it very difficult for the Angels to deal him, unless they are willing to eat serious cash. Vernon actually swung the bat pretty well at times later in the season, after returning from injury. Trout admits he prefers CF, but will play LF with no complaints whatsoever if Bourjos is CF starter. Trumbo has experience in RF from 2012 season, but Angel mgmnt must be thinking about how seriously he tailed off at the plate...

Not a lot of Angel fans on this board, but I'm really feeling good about today's trade. Trumbo's got great pop, obviously, but he's proven to be extremely streaky with too many K's. Offense is not the Angels issue. I'm really happy to see Tyler Skaggs back, only 22 with great stuff, very good potential for near future front-of-rotation impact. Plus, they get Hector Santiago from the W. Sox, who is also young, and threw pretty well for Chicago last year.
