@Dadof3 posted:I don't have an issue with the d1 or bust mentality. That's an OK dream to have. Some kids don't want to go to a small school. I get it. I know kids that went and played for a d2 and d3 schools for football and were not happy.
Due to the size of the school. They were starters
Going forward the D1 or bust mentality for HS kids is going to result in bust for all but the very best players. For those that understand reality and still want to play it that way, it’s their right to make that decision. It all boils down to how badly a kid wants to keep playing. But top 100 D1 programs will not recruit HS players the way they have in the past. Especially when they are relegated to 34 man rosters and have no ability to redshirt young players. This development provides D2 schools with a recruiting advantage that D1 schools don’t have. It allows freshmen to get a decent amount of game experience without losing a year of eligibility. They can get their feet wet in the first year (which is when a lot of players figure out the jump from HS to college) and then still have 4 years to play. It makes D2 a better option than it was - and that’s a good thing.
