Top of the 7th 5-3, Mustangs. Man on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Cats bunt hard down first base line. First baseman charges and fields the ball. The hitter stops short of the tag by backing up, allowing the runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd. The 1st baseman never puts the tag down. At least 18 inches of air space. I could not have been closer to the call. After one swipe and no audible call from anyone, the 1st baseman turns and steps towards the mound. Keep in mind this is taking place equally between home and 1st. He is now standing one step inside the base path.

The hitter takes off for first. Realizing he did not make the tag, he throws it to 1st bas, hitting the hitter in the back who was clearly in his running lane. It bounces off his shoulder and goes into right field.

Runner on 3rd scores and the runner on 2nd is now on 3rd. We now have a man on 1st and 3rd with no outs. Sam “the weasel” Carpenter calls time and musters up some home cooking. When the dust settles, the runners are returned to their bags and the hitter is out.

Someone please explain the rule on this. Oh, no one called time.
