I try not to post about my son's success/failures on the diamond, but allow me this one opportunity to brag about something that actually means much more to me.
For the few that know me well, my son was academically ineligble, during the '04 season. Absolutely no excuses, other than the fact he enjoyed college life, far too much.
Fast forward to the fall semester of '05. My son made the Dean's List, with 5-A's and 1-B. There is nothing he can do on the diamond that will surpass this accomplishment. I believe the light switch finally came on, for him.
If all goes well, he may be able to graduate, next Xmas. Hopefully the light doesn't burn out before then.
Most of us probably have stories we could tell about the trials and tribulations of our sons/daughters, relating to their college experience. I'm posting this for those that may have a son/daughter struggling with maturity, when they take the big step of leaving home for college.
During the Xmas break of '03, the only thing that kept my son from being homeless was my best friend....his old high school coach. He told me to give him one final chance to mature. He believed in my son, more than I did, at that moment. I'm glad I listened.
I hope this post helps someone that may be going through that same family crisis that we experienced.
