My son plays a successful high school baseball program. We are fortunate enough to have a lighted field and it is typical for a Friday night game to bring in hundreds of people from the community.
It has been decided by our athletic director to start charging a gate fee for our home games. I know the economy is bad and funds are needed for these programs.
My issue is that the director is the football coach and he had told a player that these funds will be helping the football team with transportation funds. The baseball players are required to some fundraising for the bb program and also parents are now required to drive students to games as transportation for baseball is nearly cut (1 van for a roster of 20 and 3 coaches).
Is this common? I kind of see it as a conflict of interest. As far as I know, football gate fees don't fund the baseball team.
