Good choice, relatively inexpensive in comparison to other baseball equipment. It usually takes an injury before they consider wearing protection (silly macho BS imo). If your kid is like mine where a necklace can throw off his timing, I would advise the kid to wear the gear when practicing hitting to get used to it so it does not become a distraction in the box.
