Can diagnosed color blind people succeed in baseball?

The term color blind is too vague, so is "color deficient", but in short there is a local player that is slightly color blind.  He said the optometrist told him he was color deficient, but so far the only glitch he has had is seeing the difference between navy blue and purple. He said he can tell all the other colors apart just fine.

The only person I know that is color blind can't tell the difference between pink and blue, so I'm assuming that is an extreme case, and this kids case is mild.  Anyway, it got me wondering if this little quirk of his would/could affect him going to the next level of baseball, or affect how high he could go.  I think we have all heard of physicals being asked of players that are being scouted, but would something like this be a red flag?
