Reply to "Chapman University- Orange, CA"

FIVE24 ...

Chapman is a very high quality university with solid academics and some outstanding athletic programs. The baseball coach is a local guy whose position just previous to this was as a local high school coach, and the previous Chapman coach is now the head coach at UC Davis (a D1 school now in the Big West Conference). Both coaches have done an excellant job with the program.

Personally I believe that they could probably compete at a higher level as some of the other schools in their regular schedule are somewhat weak.

The school itself is in a semi-urban setting, not wholey contained as with many private schools. It is a very expensive school to attend, but has great academic money behind its athletes. I have known several athletes who attended Chapman, eventually stopped competing athletically but chose to remain at the college to get their degrees (most on the "4 year plan" since the "5 year plan" gets pretty costly.)

As for the 'well-to-do' families and their influence ... well, what can I say? It is a pricey private university that was established by Orange Countians and is supported by their Southern California alum ... but I have known several students who were not from well-to-do families but had the grades to get very substantial academic scholarships and were rewarded accordingly.

And yes ... I am a bit biased since it is a local university, even tho I have no direct connection.
