Well, Kiawah is NOT one of the places to avoid!

Friends that have spent a week in a condo there say you don't have to stay right on the beach, like you would tend to think when staying at the beach, but a block away is ok. Take bikes (and golf clubs and tennis rackets). Be sure to tour Charleston, which is very walkable, but parking is tough. Check www.tripadvisor.com for the latest best restaurants to visit. When we visited Kiawah from downtown Charleston, it seems like it took about an 45-60 min? Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes are other options.
