Son's 13/14 All-Star coach just taught the team the "cut the corner" play (runners on 2nd & 3rd, bunt, runner on 2nd cuts across the grass to score while the umpires are distracted with the play at the plate and the bunt - long discussion about it on this board in January). I was furious when I heard this, since I see it as nothing more than cheating and can't believe there's so much spare practice time that the kids can't be working on something more useful. He's got most of the kids convinced that it's the greatest thing since girls and iced tea. I'll be coaching against this guy in the fall and probably again next year, you can bet I'll mention it to the umps every chance I get.
I've already told son what I think about it, and that I don't want to see him doing it if the situation arises. What do you think, is it too much to ask a kid to go against the coach?
Should I send the coach an anonymous email telling him what I think of it?
I was also thinking of giving him a few more suggestions while he's at it, stuff like teach baserunners to yell 'I got it' on infield popups, have base coaches yell out the wrong base on cutoffs and relays, throw pebbles at corner infielders on popups, get all the parents in the bleachers to yell at the opposing pitcher just as he begins his motion, etc.
