Are you winning? If you are leave him alone and let him work out of it. Make sure that he works on hitting the ball where its pitched and not pulling everything. If your not winning and its hurting the team then you do whats best for the team. Either put him in the 9 hole so he can use his speed there or sit him what ever is best for the team. One things for sure sitting on the bench will motivate him to use the field at the plate and not try to pull everything. If he knows that no matter what he does he is going to play wheres the motivation to improve? And moving down in the order is not a demotion anyway. In order to be a very good team you need good hitters 1-9. Maybe he will be more selective if he hits in the 9 hole for awhile and he knows that he is only going to get 2 or 3 abs a game instead of 3 or 4. Maybe it will get his attention and force him to prove to you that he can be patient and use the field. JMO
