My very first coaching job was coaching 1B at my alma mater for the same varsity coach I played for years before. At practice, I had lots of responsibilities. In the game, basically one. I was told to remind the field ump (we have two umps per game in our conference) at the beginning of the game that our leadoff hitter was extremely fast and the ump should be prepared for some bang/bang plays. I really believe it influenced some calls our way that season.
