Two of our coaches in the last 4 years haven't been teachers at our school, so that's not an issue.

We're always happy to see good coaches come in. Thinking about your wife, IMO Florida isn't a very friendly place right now for teachers or other public employees. I was considering leaving this job and getting my certificate, but changed my mind. The certification process isn't too hard to navigate, though.
