D3 offers after just one event (showcase/camp/tournament,etc)?

I mentioned on the Updates thread that I knew a kid who got an offer at a NESCAC school after just one Headfirst event. I think that's uncommon but I'm not sure if I'm right.

It would make sense to me if a coach liked a kid's performance at an event and contacted the kid's coach for more info and then pulled the trigger, but I'm at the age now where the only thing that makes sense to me is that nothing makes sense.

Others' thoughts and/or experiences?
