Why is this student not best off practicing with the team? otherwise how will he maintain or improve skills? I’ll say unless the kid improves dramatically he’s not doing to make it next year either. The coach has everything to gain. Chances are the coach never thinks about the kid again. Or, the kid practices with the team for a year, improves dramatically and might be a contributor for three years. The odds of him ever becoming a starting position player or starting pitcher are slim.
