Yes, college coaches do share information about recruits, but I think another logical answer may be a current coach or player.
Did this college coach talk with a high school or travel coach?
It is very common for college coaches to ask the high school or travel coach the recruits top 5 colleges. Two reasons: First, he wants to find out who his competition is.
Second, he wants to make sure your son is being recruited by programs of the same quality.
