It depends on how flexible you are. Griffey is fairly closed, but not completely. He was very flexible. Most hitters are somewhere between 30 and 45 degrees open. More than 45 degrees is probably not a good idea for most hitters because it tends to lead to opening up too early and pulling off the ball. However, if you are not flexible at all you may have to open more than 45 degrees to keep from locking up your hips.
