I had a bit of an epiphany in this area the other day. Although we all "figuratively" cheer for our kids every day, we support and encourage them, these events are some of the only places that we can LITERALLY cheer them on as they are engaging in something they love. And as a parent, it feels really good to do that. I'll be sad when that last tournament or game comes along. I just hope I see it coming, not one of those "Hey Dad, I don't think I want to play [insert sport here] anymore."
