For the vast majority of college coaching staffs, a commitment, regardless of when it is made, is considered much more than a "goodwill gesture." Fortunately, baseball recruiting is much less subject to the sort of post-commitment switching that is found in football. Once the staff extends the commitment and it is accepted, they reserve a spot in the incoming class and an appropriate level of athletic aid to go along with it.
