Reply to "ERA and win/loss"

First scenario, it depends on what happened the rest of the inning before it ended. If there are two singles, then 3 K's, the run would be earned since the singles would have scored him anyway. If there were 3 K's after, it would not be earned as the runner would not have scored if the error had not been made. Really depends.

Second scenario, starting pitcher gets the loss. Runner on was his runner, so he was behind when all his runners were accounted for. In this scenario, it doesn't matter whether the runs were earned or unearned - only the score when the book is closed on him.
