first pitch of practice...

My 2017 son catches a hard-thrower out of the pocket and exactly the top joint of the thumb as he's closing the glove. Yep. That HURT. He sits out practice. Ice and motrin, took him to urgent care for x-rays and thankfully--nothing broken. Total fluke. He's received thousands of full-speed pitches.

First game of the V season was the day after (we won). Everyone is frustrated. He's fighting to get playing time because we have a junior catcher is also a fine catcher. Dr. suggested (and I "concurred") he wear a splint. The next day son tells me it still hurts and asks when will it be better? I'm thinking he can bat and play OF in a few days, but might not catch for a week. Just ordered an All-Star protective glove. The evoshield thumb protector would likely not have helped. All I can say is be patient (to let it heal) and be ready (to play).
