What if my son's tuition isn't (too much of) an issue? thanks to some planning and generous grandparents, my son's college fund will take care of tuition worries for the most part. we still want to get some sort of offer from the school so that we have a commitment coming from their end, right?

The value a baseball coach/school has for your son is expressed in the amount of the scholarship they offer, relative to the other recruits/players on the team.
