At my son's school, a boy he knew didn't make the freshman team. After try-outs, I asked my son if there was anybody he felt SHOULD have made the team, who didn't...this kid was the first name out of his mouth. Two years before, this same boy was picked to be on a good select team with my son, but opted to sit out a year...didn't feel he could commit to playing as many games as that team was going to play.
That kid took some hitting lessons last fall/winter and went out this year for JV. Bingo!...he makes the team. Last week he hit a double off the wall just below the 360' marker.
He's not big, either...probably 5'8" and 140. He just got serious, decided it was something he wanted and, then, set out to MAKE it happen.
