Reply to "GPA"

There is no rule that says this, assuming your son meets the requirements mentioned above. This was just a couple of coaches hoping to save athletic money because of your son's grades. It is a sad fact that sometimes good grades and SAT's will actually result in a kid being offered LESS athletic money.

I am no expert, this is just my understanding from talking with two recruiting coordinators from D1s, in Texas and Oklahoma.

As you know, baseball athletic recruits are called "counters" and their aid is based on equivalencies. The minimum athletic aid a counter can receive is 25%, "athletic" money. Both schools told GED10 his athletic aid would be reduced in percentage, based on his academic aid. In other words, if he received athletic aid at 25% and earned academic aid at 30%, he would not get 55% aid, the athletic aid would go back into the baseball program. This may not be criteria in all schools in the state or any other state, just those specific schools.
