Reply to "great young player prep or public school"

SF Giants,
I think you’re stirring a pot that needs to simmer for a few more years. Let the young man enjoy the game of baseball and maybe a video game or two. Explain to him the importance of the ACT/SAT. There are so many forks in the road ahead for any 14 year old boy that a fortune teller would stand a better chance of predicting his future. On changing schools: While I’m not a big advocate of changing schools for athletic reasons, I know some players entering high school will seek out a school based on athletic programs. If the parents and the player feel strongly about changing school just for a baseball program, you might give the parents some advice as to the route they should take. After all you should have more insight into the schools programs in your area. Some day (years from now) this young ballplayer may ask you to drive his limo to a MLB park so he can get in a few rounds of BP for the cameras prior to the world series...but in the meantime... you can help him most by just hitting him a few extra ground balls.
