How far out will big D1 schools recruit?

Do the top big schools already have kids "recruited" from 2015 class? If they have verbals already filling rosters for next few yrs out is there anyway kids can still make team and get money or would they just be prefered walk ons?
Why go to showcases if they already have rosters filled. Is it ok to email after getting a showcase invite and ask about space available on rosters for particular yr?
