If your son can't find a roster spot on a decent travel team he can do individual showcases and look to get added to a travel team for a specific tournament. I think in the past Perfect Game even made a team comprised of individuals looking to play for a team (Am I right about this being PG a few years ago?)

As for being quite good and coachable, you just described about 1,000 high school all conference players. Getting to college baseball is a challenge. But its very doable with the right business plan and execution of it.
