Is the passion for the game higher in non-sunbelt areas?

While discussing the weather and its effects on baseball with a friend, it occurred to me that in the regions where weather has a deleterious effect, there is a lot more passion for the game in the players and fans. That’s not to say there’s no passion for baseball in sunbelt areas, but rather that the general level of passion is lower in those areas because of fewer opportunities.
