July 1 scholarship notification deadline

NCAA Division I and II athletes who had a scholarship this past year are supposed to receive official written notice no later than July 1 from their university's Financial Aid Office if their scholarship is going to be reduced or not renewed for the upcoming year.  Athletes who have not received such notice already, or have not already signed a renewal form for the 2016-17 school year, should be checking any e-mail addresses or physical mailing addresses that they have on file with their university.

I'm aware of a few situations in the past in which an athlete missed their deadline to appeal the loss of a scholarship because the official notice was sent to the address on file for the athlete, but he or she had not updated their new address with the school and they weren't checking mail at the old one.

Some Financial Aid Offices still send the official notice through regular mail rather than via e-mail, so athletes or parents may want to inquire how their particular university will send out these notices if they haven't already received them.
