I'm no catching expert, though with a son as a catcher I have a keen interest in this.

I've been under the impression that a ball flies faster than a moving arm. How can reaching out to catch a ball and carrying it back to the exchange point result in a faster POP time than catching the ball 'deep' for a shorter exchange?
