Reply to "League Age Determination Discussion"

Why would the international standards be set at Jan 1 while US standards would be Apr 30.
The youth baseball cutoff date used to be 7/31. When change was first discussed, the discussion was about moving to the international cutoff date. Many of the youth organizations balked at such a big change. Several new cutoff dates were discussed. The compromise was 4/30. PONY nearly balked at the change. Each organization is free to make their own choices. Look for the date to be moved again to the international date at some point in the future. That's the goal.

Making youth sports grade appropriate with a date is next to impossible. I've lived in states where the cutoff date to enter school ranged from 8/30 to 12/31 and points in between.

The date change occured when my son was turning thirteen. With his late spring birthday he could have done a second twelve year old season of LL. He chose not to. The kids in his grade and almost all the kids he came through LL moved up to 13U.
