@Richpra posted:Was just looking at a local facility, $75 for half an hour, $120 for an hour lesson. That seems on the high end for here but only by a little.
As far as I can tell most teams around here you have to try out to get an idea of the cost. It feels very "if you have to ask, you can't afford it". The few places that are up front are around $3000 for the whole year (fall, spring and summer).
Now all I need is someone to explain the difference between a "scout" team and a "showcase" team.
Showcase and scout are vague terms. Until 16u it’s just baseball. College coaches and pro scouts show up for 16u and 17u tournaments.
A showcase team would be a 16u or 17u team that plays in major tournaments coaches and scouts attend. A “showcase” is an individual event where players are assigned to teams. A scout team always used to be an elite team sponsored by a MLB franchise.
Anything before 16u isn’t scouted unless it’s a special invite elite showcase. Teams aren’t invited. Players are invited and divided into teams.
Don’t worry about the terms. They’re not always used properly or to mean the same thing. What you want before 16u is quality instruction. At 16u and 17u the player has the talent. He’s looking more for college/pro exposure than instruction.
When you start thinking about college ball it’s important to be gaining exposure at the right place. A D3 prospect at 17u PG Nationals is wasting his time.
Ask questions as your son develops. The people here will point you in the right direction.
