Honestly I'd just look for a team that focuses on development. Make sure it's the appropriate level. You want kids that are both better and worse than your player. Make sure they are small enough that will almost always guarantee decent play time. Reps/practice over tournaments.

At 13u I put together a team of thirteen players. I made a list of twenty players I thought were the best from our LL district. I corralled thirteen of them. They were all quality players reasonably close in talent. They received equal playing time. The summer after freshman year we played 16u as fifteen year olds.

I added three pitchers for 16u. Some of the players had become more focused on position and less interested in pitching.

When I had the best team on the field 2B, SS and 3B all became 6A all conference, high school shortstops. All but one player played some level of college ball. Five went D1. One kid chose college basketball over college baseball.
