Based on that comment, it sounds like they've mistaken him for a HS sophomore. Personal letters/emails can begin flowing on September 1 of junior year.

Fill out the questionnaires for the schools he would be interested in. Then go play baseball and don't think about it. He'll probably get the same letters again next year.
