Reply to "MaxPreps Stats"

A few years back we had a D1 college coach at a showcase camp tell the parents in a Q&A that he would cross check the high school stats for BB and Ks for both pitchers and hitters. He said those were the only stats he trusted, and gave me the impression it was the ratio, not the total number, that mattered. And he only used those stats as part of a cross check once he was interested in the player. I’m sure fastball and exit velocity were far more meaningful to him.

So for that reason I can get excited about walks and not worry too much about if it was a ROE or 1B or FC when a ball gets put in play! And to back that up not one coach mentioned high school stats to my son during his recruiting journey.

One last note—our team does a pretty excellent job with stats in MaxPreps—to me it seems less about the scorekeeper but more about the quality of opposition—some are better, some are worse—and stats vary accordingly!
