Hi,

We had the same play last night in 14U travel game. Runner on first stole second. Batter foul tips and catcher holds on to strike two. Runner stays at second because foul tip is a live ball.

My question: The home plate ump yelled: foul ball, so catcher didn't throw thinking that runner had to go back.

I know the catcher needs to know the situation and react accordingly.... is that the right mechanic or should the home plate ump said foul tip or nothing at all?

I was impressed they got the call right, not sure of the mechanic though.
