NIL For Dummies

I know what NIL stands for and I would imagine that there are student athletes who are approached about using their name, image and likeness.

But, do schools ever set these up for players, albeit officially or silently? And, how does the money work? One time payments? Recurring "salary"? Something else?

If a kid is being recruited by a school and they say they can get you a NIL deal, what does that mean?
