Ouch, you just brought back memories. My severe dislocation - my arm was flopping around behind my shoulder like a rag doll.
Yeah, IMO, I think it will help your cause only because you are less likely to have that same type of mishap as a catcher, although I could envision a similar action with a head first slide where the hand jams the bag. Sorry, not sure if that makes you feel better. Still, after the rest, serious PT is the key. If you take care of that and maintain your workouts, you should be good as new. I'm sure your trainers will tell you that staying strong around the shoulder will be very important.
