Reply to "One-knee-on-the-ground catching stances in blocking counts"

I agree about the approach for HS. Very athletic guys, which they all are at the top level, can adapt but for HS kids that doesn't always apply and/or they haven't grown into the explosiveness required to block from one knee on a pitch that isn't close. Obviously pitching at the higher levels is a contributor to the ability to use this approach as well. It's definitely developed into a trend in the MLB, thanks to guys like Tanner Swanson (who I admire greatly by the way), but I follow a lot of catching resources and I think the current consensus is that there just isn't enough data yet to support it. Garver is used as the poster child because he's gone nearly exclusively to that stance but it's hard to say definitively if that is the primary reason for his dramatically improved numbers last season. I'd guess Mitch would tell us it's a number of factors, including that one.
