Check VRBO.com or Homeaway.com . We rented a cottage on Lake Allatoona (?) 3 years ago which was not far from Lakepoint (which wasn't built yet). Book quick though.

You're correct about booking early. There are more houses/rentals in the area than there were 3 years ago when we went. At the time VRBO had 2 or 3....now they have 8-10. It's probably getting late if you haven't booked yet. We tried in mid-January last year and it was too late.
