Not sure how you can loose a hit...you indicated that he singled, thus the hit.
Are you saying the BR rounded first and got caught off the bag during the same play? I was picturing a pick off by the pitcher on the next pitch...If it is rounding first during the play, I would think that would still be a single and an out as if he were trying to stretch it to a double, but let the experts answer - don't take my opinion as an answer...
