Playing after Tommy John's

Son told me last night coaches are thinking he might be able to pitch in late March or early April and they are thinking about not red shirting him. It scares me he might get reinjured and I told him to call his Doctor and talk to him. He says his arm is feeling great, but right now he is only at 6 months on Jan 31st since surgery. So end of March is only going to be 8 months. Does this seem a little early to be back pitching?
