Good question. Your son needs ability, AND exposure, to play college baseball. I suggest you target both. I understand that showcases and private lessons are expensive but if you budget and plan you can do some of both. You don’t have to break the bank and attend lots of showcases or spend $300 a month on hitting lessons. With your son being a sophomore, it is getting time to seriously consider showcasing. I would try to work in a showcase this fall/winter. You should be able to find one close to your region. Strive to get an honest evaluation on your son’s talent from that fall/winter showcase and plan your next step accordingly. If thing go well, plan on at least one spring/summer showcase next spring.
I agree with Florida Baseball Guy in that your son needs to play on a good summer team that will develop his skills. Good teams not only develop players but they also provide another setting for exposure to college coaches.
