Outfield makes a good point about the usefullness of summer teams.
My son transfered after the fall of his soph. JUCO year. They were in desperate need of a 2nd baseaman (which he played in JUCO) and he was in desperate need of a school in that geological area.
He played 2nd for them that spring and they planned to keep him there and recruited a young man to play short for the the following year.
During the summer he played short (which he played in hs) and had a great summer. In the fall they told the two boys they would be competing for short and my son ended up starting every game at short.
Funny thing - they had their roster all figured out until he played that summer..
