Responding to Letters

I have read just about every thread on responding to Coaches letters and still have a few inquiries:

1. If a school that your son knows he would never attend
a. sends a letter with the usual questionnaire, should he complete and return it?
b. calls, should he thank them for showing an interest but tell them he is not considering them as an option?

I do not want to mislead a coach and waste his time and effort.
